John Carroccio's Boiled Shrimp

Submitted by Michelle Maggs

I watched John make this one summer, and later wrote down the ingredients and steps. Forgive me, John, if this isn’t exact, but I have tried it since, and it works for me!

Ingredients

Uncooked shrimp with shells on
Crab Boil bag (of spices and seasoning)
1 lemon
1 bottle or can of beer
2 tbsp. of salt
Old Bay seasoning
Cocktail sauce or mix ketchup, horseradish, Tabasco, and Worcestershire sauce

Directions

  1. Wash shrimp

  2. Put bag of Crab Boil spices in large pot of water and bring to a boil

  3. Squeeze lemon juice into water and add beer and salt

  4. Stir, then add shrimp

  5. When shrimp rises to the top, drain water

  6. Rinse shrimp in cold water or place in pot of cold water

  7. Shell (leaving tails) and devein, and spring Old Bay generously

  8. Serve with lemon wedges and cocktail sauce
